The writer

Sane Keskiaho

A good company history starts with listening.

I am a non-fiction author, journalist and communications entrepreneur. I have worked in communications since 1995, also as an editor-in-chief and a publisher. I have written seven company histories in which the stages of a company and the experiences of its people come together as a living story. The eighth is under way.

I live in Lahti and travel after interviews around Finland and abroad as well. In the stories of international companies the view reaches from the home town out into the world.

The best moment in my work is when an interviewee gets going on a story that no one has written down yet.

I study my own field constantly and with passion, by reading.

Background

Bringing the company and its people to life

What fascinates me are the people behind the company: where it all started, what kept them going through the hard times and which encounters changed the direction. I also want to hear the memories and experiences that are not in the annual reports. That is where a company’s story comes alive.

I am used to taking responsibility for the whole: planning the content, putting the team together, keeping the schedule and getting the work published. I have seen several trade magazines through to publication together with an editorial board or an editor-in-chief, and I am currently the editor-in-chief of the Suuhygienisti magazine.

I also know corporate communications from copywriting, and I have written a cookbook together with my daughter Viivi Vesanen.

In a company history this experience comes together with curiosity and the skill of listening. The essentials have to be found in the interviews and the archives and built into an interesting, trustworthy story. At the same time I make sure the book is finished on the agreed schedule, together with the designer and the printer.
